  GLC: Golden Beryl

One of the Beryl Family variety range in color between light yellow lemon color to golden to deep greenish yellow is also called Yellow Beryl, Helidor, and Precious Beryl.

Yellow Beryl or Helidor ???

Although, there is not a distinctive definition for both gems, it is agreed upon among gem dealers that "Helidor," a name derived from the Greek word meaning "gift of the sun," is a deeper greenish yellow to golden color. The green overtone is what makes a Golden or Yellow Beryl called Helidor.

First discovered in Africa in the early 1900's, Namibia, Nigeria, and Madagascar, as well as Brazil are known to be producers of Helidors and Yellow Beryls.

Golden, Yellow Beryls are common gems, usually mined in large quantities in Brazil. However, large flawless stones over 10 to 20 carats are known to be rare. Large flawless Helidors are even more rare. The name Precious Beryl was given to this Beryl variety to distinguish these beautiful gems from Citrine, a common yellow variety of the Quartz family.

Helidors Are Collector's Gems

Because of their beauty and relative rarity compared to Yellow Beryl, Helidor, the gift of the sun is well appreciated by collectors. Distinctive jewelry can be designed with these unusual gems. Color usually never fades even if heated, usually flawless and exhibit excellent brilliance.
