GLC: Pink Sapphire
Until very recently, jewelers and even Gemologists argued over the issue "Pink Ruby" or "Pink Sapphire." Although some dealers market Pink Sapphire as Pink Ruby, everyone admits that its unique beautiful color called "HOT PINK" is a pure vibrant pink, usually associated with Burma. Today, Sri Lanka as well as some major African mines produces Fine Pink Sapphire. BUYING TIPS Whether you like pink or not, Pink Sapphire is a dominating beauty because of its unusual brilliance and flash. Most Pink Sapphires will contain a purplish or orange overtone. As long as the dominating color is pink, they are classified as Pink Sapphire. The depth of color is something to look for but clarity and transparency are important as well. Eye clean well-cut stones over 2ct sizes are considered Top Gem Grade. Hot Pink sapphires over 3ct sizes are extremely rare these days. Pink Sapphires like most corundum are commonly heated. Natural Pink Sapphires, if located, are sold for at least 5 times the price of comparable heated Pink Sapphire. Gem Auction Inc. © Copyright 1997-2001, Gem Auction Inc. All Rights Reserved. |
