GLC: Sky and Swiss Blue Topaz

A deep sky blue color that looks like a pure fine aquamarine color with no greenish tint and at fractions of the aqua price.

However, the Swiss Blue Topaz color is more of a product of laboratories rather than nature. This color is produced by electron bombardment in a linear accelerator, only small percentage of stones irradiated by using this technique, produces the Swiss blue color, the remaining of stones maybe of a lighter shade and it is called "Sky Blue Topaz."

In the past few years, topaz producers have combined reactor and accelerator treatment to produce an attractive color called "Super Blue" or "Maxi Blue" topaz and sometimes even called "Electric Blue." All are commercial names for irradiated natural white topaz. Such colors do not occur in nature. Prices vary according to the depth of the color in blue topaz, that the deeper the blue the more per carat price you pay. Natural light blue color occurs in nature and is classified as rare if mined in large clean crystals.
