  GLC: White Sapphire

It’s a Diamond by any other name, a colorless precious gem, it’s the hardest gem compared to all other gems except for Diamonds on Mohs scale 9 to 9.5. White Sapphires are rare, beautiful and of a great value. These Sapphires are usually appreciated and desired by gem collectors and Sapphire Connoisseurs, because it is more affordable than a Diamond. But when cut beautifully, a person will not notice the difference, unless tested by standard gem instruments.

WHITE SAPPHIRES ARE ONLY MINED IN SRI-LANKA

Sapphires and Rubies are mined in many different places of the world. There is a wide range of colors, for example: the White Sapphire, which seems to be found only in Sri-Lanka. The White Sapphire was not well known in the gem trade until 20 years ago. When the diffusion process was introduced to turn the colorless White Sapphire to Cobalt Blue, this process drove the price of these white gems to its maximum limit. Large pieces became unavailable, and prices suffered an increase of almost 8 to 10 times higher than normal value.

IT HAS ITS OWN MAGIC

Not only because it is an April birthstone replacement or because it is a water clear brilliant gem, even its bluish tint variety resembles a bluish White Diamond. Also, some people believe that in the Ancient Indian culture, Natural Sapphires affected human life. People believed that Sapphires were good luck if it brought happiness, success or good news after it was purchased. There are some stories about how good luck Sapphires increased sales when placed in a cash box or even in a wallet, are common. Another example: in India, White Sapphires were believed to produce magic by purifying and enhancing life. Also, it is believed that the bigger the stone, the more likely an effective change may be noticed in your daily life.

WHITE SAPPHIRE IN WEDDING RINGS

White Sapphires have been replacing Diamonds in wedding rings, a method that was not commonly used. Round Brilliant White Sapphires, with a large sized center, were set in Platinum or White Gold, as the new Diamond of the Millennium.
